Chess-Goldchess-Solving

Solving Chess, which means solving of chess problems on the checkerboard, is a separate discipline, a branch of chess. It is, in a way, a niche in the mainstream, that is in live tournaments, which are more popular and have a greater number of contenders. And they are the core of the royal game.
Goldchess, as an intermediate discipline, is a blend of solving chess and live tournaments. It is a “live” tournament game, although played “only” against an educational computer – (baby) CEEC. At the same time it is also a form of solving chess problems. And Goldchess, as an intermediate, but at the same time universal discipline, connects again those two worlds. That is because it has something to offer to both those who like solving chess puzzles, and to those who prefer live tournaments. It has something to offer to everyone – to amateurs and to professionals.
In the early days of Goldchess, a discipline which was first introduced at the Chess Festival in Rewal, Grandmaster Yuri Zezulkin said that Goldchess would find its place in the Problemist section and that it would dominate the section and drive out of it the current form, that is solving chess. I think it’s not entirely true. First of all, we don’t want to drive anyone out of anywhere. Solving chess has its own life and we will be rather supporting it. We’re friends. Our first friends from the chess world are actually solvers. Let me mention, for instance, the patron of our portal, who is both a good solver – he is the current holder of the World Team Champion title – and a proper Grandmaster. If those of you who like solving chess problems become interested in this new method of doing it, you will be welcomed to the circle of Goldchess enthusiasts as warmly as any other chess players. Feel invited. Goldchess is not meant to divide, but to join people. It is expected to be above any divisions. And it is designed for all kind of chess players. Particularly for those who can play beautifully based on combinations. And for those who want to learn how to do that. Because Goldchess is a school of chess beauty and brilliance, which we call modestly: “A New Way of Chess”.

Goldchess – nothing is simpler

Here is the most important rule of Goldchess:
Always assume that
1. CEEC will make a different or weaker move than the one you expect;
2. CEEC will play the way you want it to play provided that you lure it into doing so.
CEEC likes falling into traps and you should use this information to win a game.

The rule is to play from a given position against our chess computer CEEC. The first thing to do in order to obtain full access is to download from www.goldchess.com , the Download section , the chess application and activation codes . Then fill in the right forms by entering unlock and serial numbers. For Apple users we have a Wine Bottler application available in the download section. It will let you run CEEC on your computers.
Game selection
*Genius Test and Gold 0 are free games where you don’t need to register and log in. For Genius Test you can download the starting position in the Play Now section and for Gold 0 in the News section. A description of the problem can also be found there. You can send solutions to the problem via email /in a CEEC .pgn file/, to contact@goldchess.com
Players who downloaded a position from Gold 0 via the Play option and „bought” a free Gold 0 game, can save their solutions under the Save tab in Gold 0.

*In the Rosija-America Tournament / prize pool of $50,000/ and Independent Chess Department /prize pool of $25,000/, after you pay the entry fee, you will be enabled to download problems together with descriptions. Solutions can be saved under the relevant -Save- tabs. When playing against the CEEC computer you can reverse your moves and make different ones as many times as you need to find the right solution.
* The first person to send the right solution or to save it under the -Save-tab of his/her game wins /Genius Test, Gold 0/. In Independent, it is not the player who is the first to save or send in a solution but the one with the best time that wins.
Moreover, if the player doesn’t solve a given problem, the solution will be provided under the / Game info or Winners / tab where the player can see how he/she should have played in order to win/
Generally, there are 2 types of solutions, mate /m/ and victory /v/, in which case the computer resigns showing a -resign- message. In the solution file you can also find a position letting you know from which moment the solution starts. For example. m22-pos.12, v20-pos.10.
This is all the knowledge and information needed by the player – the tournament contender.

Goldchess portal – Ambassador of chess beauty

Back to the beauty

Present day chess fell for a trap of the game for the purpose of the game and its results.
Somewhere has been lost the most important aspect of it, the beauty of chess game and the beauty of chess combinations.
Pay attention to the fact that nowadays there is no chess tournaments that offer prizes for the most beautiful match in a tournament.
Thats why Goldchess portal is directed towards creating beauty and displaying it to the wide variety of chess community. Goldchess is also directed towards awarding players with big prizes.

British World Chess solving championship

I went to the championship with Piotr Murdzia – 7 time world champion in chess solving and British champion of 2015.
Since my daughter lives in London, I was already planning a trip there. In this case I did both – visited her and went as a guest to the Albion Championship in chess solving, Anno Domini 2016. I had never been to England before, and it was my first time on a plane in a long time. I’ve chosen a flight from Warsaw, with polish airline LOT. To make this article more humorous, let me tell you something interesting. From Poland to England the flight is one hour long and from England to Poland is three hours long. I believe that everyone understands why, for those who don’t – try it yourself. While traveling I often come up with interesting ideas, just like this time. As I was entering the plane, I’ve asked our stewardess to show me her hand. I looked at it and I told her that she has a very long life line. Now I could travel with no fear.
We were surprised by the unusual London weather, with no fog or smog. This was one out of 365 days of the year when weather in London is not foggy! From there everything went as planned. My daughter picked us up from the Heathrow airport and transported us to the place where championship took place – Slough. Since the championship took place the next day, my daughter took us to Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant (one of the most popular chefs in the world) in which she works. Inside, I was warmly welcomed by her friends who made me feel like at home. We had champagne and seven different kind of dishes, including sushi. I won’t try to describe the incredible taste of the food but concluding it was the most amazing, beautiful and tasty supper in my life. And to think that all it took was to visit London…
British Championship happened in a beautiful Eton College auditorium. You can see it on the pictures attached. There were strong players from around the world, which caused a hard battle for points. Our grandmaster scored second place, losing to Belgian who scored 5 points in the last minute and took lead by 2,5 points. You can see our grandmaster’s game on www.goldchess.com, as I though of it as beautiful and I found a solution to it.
British chess solving championship have one interesting specificity. All players play in one group and are subjected to a general scoring. Then the organizers divide them between English and foreign players, and Englishman who scored the best in general group, becomes a British champion. It look humorous, as for example first 100 of places are scored by foreigns, and Englishman can still become a champion by taking 101st place :). This year was not so bad for English as pure Englishman took third place. Belgian, Pole an English.
After returning to the hotel, the atmosphere was pleasant, as I discovered that it is Piotr Murdzia’s birthday. I’m not going to narrate on our hotel party for the known reasons :). It’s a skill taken from chess tactics :). Concluding, there is many Poles around and there is no problem communicating in polish.

Solving and Goldchess

In short, Goldchess is also about solving chess problems and tasks but in the newest form, playing live against chess computer CEEC (Chess Elite Educational Computer). On the other side Goldchess is a duplicate or a mirror image of a practical game. As a matter of fact the game is against a computer with 1800 ELO educational level, but he is „alive”, plays by defending, counterattacking and overall – plays well. 🙂 There is also some innovation. Goldchess combinations can’t be found in a chess base that contains 8 millions of games. In this case chess players have to do or to discover something new, which is also their creativity! The only guideline is for example a mate in 30, which is at the same time a hint. Nevertheless players have to discover it on their own. Additionally, there is no way of being a copycat as in many cases chess players win by following their own path or by creating new variants. During the Goldchess Polish Championship nobody has won by the authors choice but only by doing the right amount of moves to win. A different way. Also, nobody has won faster than the author. On the other hand, in the VIIIth round of Rosija – America tournament, it was necessary to repeat authors variant to win. Now the question is if they were copycats? No, they found their own solution – on their own. The only hint they had was the fact that it was possible to do. Although CEEC is not an expert on 3000 ELO, it can teach many professional chess players a lesson. Because chess is like life, never ending learning. Additional success of CEEC and Goldchess problems is due to the fact that mostly none of the stronger chess computers can solve it. We’ve tested it against Fritz, Rybka and Houdini – none of them succeed. It is as a result of CEEC computer playing in a very specific way and a different way of playing by the author. Combining both of those facts gives an unbelievable effect, in which the best way of winning is to make moves which won’t be made by stronger computer because most of them fail as they do not create an opportunity to win in as many moves or faster from the author. Another conclusion is that not only stronger computers can’t solve the problem, but also grandmasters can’t always. The main conclusion is that in Goldchess, both amateurs and professionals have equal chances. It is different than in most of traditional tournaments where there is a few chess players with a ranking above 2700 ELO and one of them has to win. As a matter of fact the chances are not even 1% that one of them would win if they would participate in our Goldchess Polish Championship. This makes Goldchess unique. A little modest educational computer CEEC has no respect before anyone. It is not afraid of high rankings, titles, or stronger computers. This is an innovation… simple beauty. Goldchess is a new quality, style, XXII century, it is „New way of chess”. We invite you to check our website. We have a Contest for the most beautiful game of the world (everybody can send their game – candidate), Grandmaster Corner, with a prize of $100, free Gold 0 game, with a prize of $50 every week and a world phenomenon, Rosija-America tournament, with a prize fund $50 000! 1st Edition is a replay of Anand-Gelfand game, and the problems are actual positions from their game. In the 2nd Edition, also with $50 000 prize fund, we will show a replay of Anand-Carlsen! Tournament entry fee, to win $50 000 of prizes, is only $30 in promotion. You can join the tournament at any moment, also before the last round in which the prize will be $12 000! Starting May 7th 2016! www.goldchess.com New way of chess.

Tournament Rosija-America, – $ 50 000 prizes!

On the 16th of January 2016 Goldchess is starting its own Global Online Chess Tournament Rosija-America. This is true, despite current sanctions and isolation of Russia, Chess is beyond divisions. Chess bring people together rather than setting them apart. Nevertheless, this case has me worrying about next year frequency in Chess Department Rosija, as I assume that more nations will play in Chess Department America, in which case Department Rosija will be a little bit scanty. I hope I’m wrong. Russia is one of four chess world powers /not counting Norway of course :)/. Considering chess intellectual potential, India, China and USA are the only ones that rival to Russia.
Other 180 countries of the world, are just „the rest of the world”, added all together falling into the fifth group of general population of chess players.
We are working on Chess Departments of India and China, but as for right now Chess Department Rosija and America emerge on the international chess arena. So chess players from India and China can choose to play in either team Rosija or America.
We predict very tens rivalry in our global tournament.
Who is going to be better? Department Rosija or Department America?
Who is going to win more prizes? Amateurs or professionals? Those are the questions.
As of right now, in Goldchess we have created out of two world championship games, Anand-Gelfand /I Edition/ and Anand-Carlsen /II Edition/, chess matches full of fireworks! We’ve changed the face and the character of these bouts. In Goldchess there are no draws. There are beautiful combinations, reckless attacks, sacrifice of figures, which you will be able to recreate after the author of Goldchess. Recreate or show your own conception, better than the authors.
We invite chess players from all around the world, for the big chess fun with prizes. Yes, with prizes, as in Rosija – America Tournament we have an accumulation of $50 000 for prizes!
Goldchess is a play in which anything can happen, so here the bouts are won by Gelfand!
Anyone can play, as in Goldchess amateurs and professionals have equal chances of winning.
We also welcome new players to give it a try. After getting to know our book – „Jak wygrać z komputerem w szachy” and chess matches included in the book, which takes about a week, they can seriously give it a try and fight for the prizes.

We think it is not going to be difficult to win as in a replay match of Anand-Gelfand, in the place of the world champion will be our Chess Elite Educational Computer – CEEC, which plays similar to the author, on the I category level, and is not so difficult to defeat.
We wish each player, to be amongst the best.

Carlsen – the new World Champion

In Candidates Tournament – Replay, played at Goldchess from April until July, 2013, I wrote:

As white Carlsen earned 3.5 point, as black he earned as many as 5!
What will Anand’s strategy be? Win as black, draw as white.
However, with Carlsen it won’t be so easy…

And, indeed, it wasn’t. It seems that Carlsen is beyond the reach of modern Grandmasters.
Sure, at one point someone who dethrones him will appear, but it won’t happen soon. Carlsen is young and he will be developing.

His November match proved my observation. Carlsen is better playing black. Two of three resultative games he won playing black. Regarding the 5th game, former World Champion’s – Anand’s – first loss, I need to admit that he played black incredibly strong and militantly. However, the future World Champion played amazingly accurately. Sacrificing the central e5 pawn in exchange for -2 tempo in the march of the line pawn was a highest class move and it determined the result of the game.

In the 2nd resultative, the 6th game of the match, the world of white begins to fall apart after Anand’s 44th move, 44.h5. I haven’t seen Grandmasters’ comments, but in my humble opinion it was a losing error.

After the game the still-World-Champion Anand should have feared like a plague every game in which Carlsen played black. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. The 9th game brought Carlsen another, third win, after which the World Champion’s position became dramatic. To draw, he would have had to win the last three subsequent games. After laying my amateur’s on the 9th game I have one question. And what would be after 28.Gf1?

Then, the 10th game dispelled all doubts. The draw, which resulting in Anand surrendering the game.

Carlsen – the new World Champion! The crown goes to Norway.

Congratulations!!!
